Warm light on people he liked

Pierre-Auguste Renoir

Renoir at his warmest. Madame Charpentier on a sofa with her two children and the family dog, a young girl with a bunch of daisies, Nini sitting in a garden of dappled light, a girl bathing, and flowers heaped beside prickly pears on a table. Soft skin, feathery brushwork, and colour where you would expect shadow.

As a puzzle

Kind and quick. The brushwork is soft but never still, so skin, fabric and leaves all carry a flicker of colour that tells one piece from the next, and the flowers and the patterned rooms are busy to the edges. The plain dark grounds behind a portrait are the only slow part. Go as high as you like.

A good size here: 80–300 pieces.
