Beschilderde kamers bij Pompeii

Romeinse wandschildering

Wanden uit twee Romeinse villa’s die de Vesuvius in het jaar 79 bedolf, zo’n honderd jaar eerder beschilderd: de villa van Publius Fannius Synistor in Boscoreale en een keizerlijke villa in Boscotrecase. De slaapkamer uit Boscoreale, op elke wand beschilderd met steden en zuilengangen, zuilen en rode panelen die de muur openen naar denkbeeldige architectuur, een guirlande met maskers, een vrouw met een lier in een bewerkte stoel, een andere met een schild, en Perseus die Andromeda bevrijdt in een blauwgroene zee.

Als legpuzzel

Grote vlakken Pompejaans rood, zwart en groen, met het leven in de randen: zuilen, guirlandes, geschilderde lijsten. Begin bij de figuren en de rechte lijnen van de architectuur en vul dan de kleurvlakken, die gebarsten en versleten genoeg zijn om elk stukje wat tekening te geven. De twee zwarte wanden uit Boscotrecase gaan traag, dus houd die laag; de slaapkamer en de zittende vrouwen kunnen een gematigd aantal goed aan.

Een goede maat hier: 40–160 stukjes.
